Roads & Streets
Network Forbes Shire Council manages and maintains approximately 1600 kilometres of rural road of which 35% is sealed and 55% gravel and 10% formed/natural. In addition the shire also manages and maintains approximately 120 kilometres of urban streets and lanes and lanes of which 85% are sealed and 15% are gravel. Forbes Shire Council maintains approximately 63 kilometres of the Newell Highway. Funding for maintenance and construction of the Newell Highway is received from the Federal Government. Council also manages, constructs and maintains various sections of state and regional roads. Up-Coming Events content coming soon Pavement Management Information During 2002, Council engaged the services of a contractor to test the structural capacity, perform laser roughness and to develop a visual condition survey of the Shire, Urban and Regional sealed road networks. With the use of deterioration modeling, this data is being used to develop long-term pavement maintenance and rehabilitation strategies.
