Rate your town and make Forbes your place

Last modified: May 5, 2009 - 2:43 PM

Forbes residents will have the chance to voice their opinions in a new survey that will be sent out in a bid to make Forbes a better town to live as well as an attractive place for new businesses and industry to come and set up shop.

The newly formed Forbes Industry Committee has been set up to establish a new Industry Policy which will work to make Forbes a better place for potential developers to come and start new business and develop new industry.

The new policy will be aimed at making the development process much more user friendly by allowing members of the community to take ownership and putting them at the front line when it comes to meeting with prospective developers.

The committee which has been convened by the Forbes Shire Council is made up of local business owners and employees from across the vast range of local industries (see attached list.)

The survey will be a starting point for the committee who want to identify with the local community what exactly needs to be done to make Forbes an attractive place for developers and enabling existing industries and organisations to expand and build their businesses into the future.

Forbes Mayor Phyllis Miller says this new survey will give the ownership of the town back to the community, "We as a Council feel that it's important for the people of Forbes to have ownership of the town and we want this committee to be run by the community people for the community," Cr Miller said.

"We want people to make sure they get this survey filled in truthfully and critically so then we know that we will be on the right track when we get to developing and adopting this new policy," Cr Miller said.

Committee member and Highlands Designs owner says the survey will cover a broad range of issues that Forbes is currently dealing with and he expects community members to grab this opportunity to stand up and be heard, "I think that it is very important that Forbes Shire Council has identified that there is problems and that it needs the community to fix them," Mr Watts said.

"But, the community wants to know that when they give us their feedback, it will be heard and actions will be taken."
