Bushranger Festival set to thrillLast modified: July 10, 2009 - 1:20 PM
Excitement is mounting about a Ben Hall Festival which promises to thrill when staged in the outlaw’s final resting place and regular haunt of Forbes this year. After more than 140 years, the interest in Hall’s sensational bushranging career has continued to swell, with anticipation building for the Ben Hall Festival to be held from October 3 to 5, 2009. Forbes Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said “the Ben Hall Festival will be a spectacular event for the whole region celebrating the colour, glory and folk traditions of the Lachlan Valley in the 1860s.” A huge program of free family fun is planned including live entertainment, bushranger and Ben Hall authorities, bush bands and poetry, dramatic recreations, folk music and folklore, horses, traditional food & games and indigenous discovery experiences. “Renowned performers, actors and artists and hundreds of talented community members are coming together to stage this spectacular Festival and in particular The Main Event; a family fun day on October 3 which will see the streets of Forbes turn back the clock 140 years,” said Mayor Miller. Events will be held throughout the long weekend with live entertainment daily including Ben Hall breakfast, street performers, guided tours, guest speakers plus the fun continuing after dark including a unique theatre restaurant and outdoor cinema. A new Ben Hall Festival Work Group is being formed to provide support to event organizers. The group’s first meeting will be held on Thursday 12 February at 5:30pm at Forbes Town Hall. To find out more about the Ben Hall Festival or to register to participate in the Work Group contact Misty Gardner on (02) 6850 2318 or mistyga@forbes.nsw.gov.au. The Ben Hall Festival is being presented by Forbes Shire Council and Barrick Australia Limited. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Further information about the Ben Hall Festival will be available soon via a new website currently under construction.
