Wheelchair Roll to celebrate disabled achievers and carers
Disabled achievers and carers will be celebrated at a “Wheelchair Roll” event in Forbes on Monday July 28.
Sir Roden Cutler Charities (SRCC), a Sydney-based organization, conduct “The Wheelchair Roll” each year travelling throughout Australia recognizing disabled achievers and carers.
Forbes Shire Council Mayor Rhonda Keane said “we are looking forward to “The Wheelchair Roll” event, this as an important opportunity to reflect on the significant achievements of people with a disability as well as carers.”
The event will get ‘rolling’ with a fun, half hour ‘Tai Chi for Health’ class, suitable to be performed standing, or seated for people with mobility issues.
A ceremony will follow with SRCC to provide $500 in assistance to a deserving recipient to assist with their ongoing care, as well as provide awards recognizing both a disabled achiever and a carer.
House With No Steps have also partnered in this event, and will host SRCC delegates in a tour of their Aussie Biscuits factory, before “The Wheelchair Roll” commences at the Forbes Youth & Community Centre, where guests will enjoy Aussie Biscuits amongst other light refreshments.
Mayor Keane said “we are especially pleased to be able to host “The Wheelchair Roll” during Local Government Week (28 July – 3 August).
“This year we are celebrating the theme Over the Fence: Cultivating our own Backyard, which is all about developing relationships with our neighbours, embracing our differences and sharing and communicating positively.”
“The Wheelchair Roll” is a free event, open to the public and SRCC and Forbes Shire Council would like to invite any interested community members to attend to celebrate disabled achievers and carers in the community.
The event will commence at the Forbes Youth & Community Centre at 11:30am on Monday July 28.
