FAQs
How are my rates calculated?
Ordinary rates are based upon the land value of the property. Property valuations are provided to Council by the Valuer General, with values being reviewed every four years. The amount payable by the rate payer is calculated using a formula where the value of the property is multiplied by a rate in the dollar, where minimum rates apply, the rateable value will at least be this amount if the ad volerum calculation is less. This rate is set by Council at the beginning of each financial year as part of Council's budgetary process. All properties, excluding certain government and other exempt properties, are charged rates each year.
