A guide for applying for a job at Forbes Shire Council.

Submitting a Job Application:

 

Job applications should be sent to the address nominated in the advertisement. It is important that your application arrives before the closing date, as selected committees are not obliged to accept late applications.

 

Your Application:

 

Your application must provide information on your education, employment history and experience. This helps the selection committee to shortlist for an interview. Your application should provide routine personal information and enable the committee to assess your claims to the position relative to other applicants.

 

Your application should be framed in terms of the selection criteria, as the committee will assess your suitability for an interview from the information in your application. It is essential that the following details are included clearly in your application.

§          Address and contact telephone number;

§          Full details of the job and date advertised;

§          A resume of personal details, qualifications and employment history, including;

à         Current employer;

à         Full educational history and relevant qualifications;

à         Relevant work history and relevant qualifications;

à         Other relevant interests and skills.

§          A summary of your claims against the selection criterion; and

§          Details of at least two (2) referees who could provide comments on you r work performance and an assessment of you in terms of the selection criteria, (your referees may be contacted at the short listing stage, so give them a  copy of the selection criteria as soon as you can).

Please read this information carefully, as it will help you with the preparation of your employment application.

Selection is based on the assessment of each applicant in relation to the selection criteria identified in the position description for the advertised vacancy. The position description is contained in this information kit.

The selection criteria consists of the qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully undertake the job.

Your application should consist of the following:

§          Complete job application cover sheet

§          Covering letter

§          Resume

§          Statements addressing the selection criteria.

Each statement should adequately illustrate how you meet the criteria.

Provide complete and relevant information. Do not simply state that you meet the requirements of the selection criteria. Give examples, which demonstrate how you meet each criterion.

Your resume should provide details of your educational qualifications, work history, special skills or qualifications, training details and referees, plus any other information which may support you application. Be clear and informative. Include the names, position title, addresses and telephone numbers of at least two referees.

Applications marked “confidential- application for position” should be received by close of business (5:00pm) on the closing date for the position. Late application may not be considered.

All applications will be acknowledged. Applicants will be advised of the result of their application following completion of the recruitment process.
