Forbes Heritage Trail

The Forbes Heritage Trail provdies both tourists and residents of Forbes a comprehenisive insight into the magnificant heritage features that make the Forbes township so unique.

What is the Forbes Heritage Trail?

This initative of Forbes Shire Council and it's Heritage Trail Group, focuses on establishing a trail throughout the Forbes CBD and beyond to include significant sites in the Forbes Shire.

The trail identifies 24 significant heritage features within the Shire, each with a special importance in the shaping of what the Forbes community has become today.

The Heritage Trail is divided into 3 sections:

  • The CBD Walk (Sites 1-18) (110 minutes to complete)
  • Walk or Drive (Sites 19-20) (40 minutes to complete)
  • Drive (Sites 21-24) (30 minutes to complete)

Historical sites visited on the Heritage Trail include:

  • The Lachlan South Lead
  • Numbers 92-110 Rankin Street
  • Rankin Street
  • Forbes Post Office
  • Town Hall Site
  • St John's Anglican Church
  • Victoria Square
  • St Andrew's Presbyterian Church
  • Forbes Court House
  • Lands Office
  • The Teacher's Vested Residence
  • St John's Hostel
  • The South Forbes Story
  • Camp Hill
  • Lake Forbes

The Heritage Trail also visits sites significant to local historical identities, including:

  • Joseph Bernard Reymond (1834-1918)
  • John Fullarton Armstrong (1836-1905)
  • Lindsay James Fell (1885-1974)
  • John Anthony Meagher (1924-1999)
